The Chemistry of Change

Whether it’s research with life-saving potential or academic programs with near-perfect job placement, EMU is committed to impact that extends well beyond the classroom.

In this issue, you’ll read about a chemist who spent two decades developing a custom molecule to neutralize a rogue protein that contributes to fibrotic diseases. His work exemplifies the kind of long-term, high-impact research that happens here. It’s not driven by prestige. It’s driven by possibility.

You’ll also encounter the story of a sound-based gunshot detection system that is being designed with schools in mind. Inspired by the life-saving success of fire detectors, this research could offer a new tool for safety in an age where students and educators face increasing threats.

These are just two examples of how research at EMU is both innovative and intentional. Our size allows us to be nimble. Our location gives us insight into the urgent challenges facing urban and regional communities. And our people bring the creativity and commitment to turn ideas into impact for the public good.

You’ll also read about our Interior Design program, where graduates are consistently landing top jobs at firms across the country, proof that our students are not only prepared but in demand.

Thank you for reading. I hope you are as inspired by our faculty, staff, and students as I am.
