Ten Things You Didn't Know…

Game On!

We’re not playing around when it comes to game design. The influential website Animation Career Review recently recognized Eastern’s simulation, animation and gaming (SAG) program as one of the region’s best, ranking it 16th in the Midwest. Criteria included academic reputation, admission selectivity, the depth and breadth of the program, employment data, and tuition value. SAG prepares students to succeed in a wide variety of creative industries locally, nationally and globally.

Up, Up and Away

EMU’s Atmospheric Physics Experiment students took their research to new heights in May by launching a high-altitude weather balloon. The project is part of a national initiative to measure changes in galactic cosmic rays during periods of heightened solar activity. Now that kind of research is really outta sight!

We Support Our Vets

EMU is on the front lines when it comes to providing academic support and a welcoming campus environment to our military and veterans at Eastern. Among larger public universities, EMU earned a “Top 10 Gold” designation as a Military Friendly® School (ranked 4th) and as a Military Friendly® Spouse School (ranked 5th).

Rank ’Em High

U.S. News & World Report recently ranked three EMU graduate programs among the nation’s best: Master of occupational therapy (53rd), physician assistant program (93rd) and speech language and pathology (120th). Better hitch your wagon to these programs—each earned higher rankings this year than in 2024 and they’re still on the rise.

Turn On, Tune In

For the third consecutive year, 89.1 WEMU, Eastern’s public radio station, was named Station of the Year, Public Radio Group 1, by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. The listener-supported NPR affiliate provides news, jazz, and blues programming. What makes WEMU so special? Set your dial and trust your ears.

That's the Way!

Eastern is taking bold steps to revolutionize health education with the launch of Way Forward@EMU. With the support of a $1 million grant from the Toyota Way Forward Fund, EMU is providing six to eight-week learning experiences to high school students from Ypsilanti, Wayne/Westland and Romulus. Among the topics covered are traumatic brain injury awareness, mental health, nutrition, and wellness.

Look Out, Wall Street!

During the 2025 Finance Leaders’ Conference in May, a team from EMU’s Financial Management Association chapter took first place in the Investment Challenge, impressing a panel of industry experts with their firm valuation analysis and strategic insights. Other team members took second place in the investment analysis poster competition.

A Positive Podcast

Among the plethora of podcasts out there, one is quite popular among Eastern students: “Enlighten U.” Produced by EMU, the content addresses the unique stressors, academic pressures, and personal and social challenges college students often face. FeedSpot, a global podcast database, gave “Enlighten U” top rankings among Michigan’s mental health podcasts. It’s powerful, pertinent and a perfect download for your iPod (or other mobile device).

Another Fabulous Forensics Finish

It’s no secret that Eastern’s Forensics team has built a solid reputation for excellence in competitive speaking and performance. That four-decade tradition continued with a third-place finish at the National Forensics Association National Tournament in April. Trust us—with their persuasive rhetorical skills, you don’t want to start a debate with this group.

Eco-Friendly Eastern

True to its green logo, Eastern continues its ongoing commitment to sustainability. From naming a sustainability manager to monitoring campus energy usage to donating surplus food from its on-campus kitchens, EMU is working to ensure the long-term well-being of the university and the broader Ypsilanti community.
